Here is a selection of questions we are often asked. If you have any further enquiries, or would like to book one of our services, get in touch now.

What is a smoke-free area?

These are areas where it is an offence to have stoves, boilers, or furnaces emit smoke. Following the clean air acts, local authorities can designate certain areas to be one of these areas. You cannot install a wood burning stove if your property is situated in one of these.

You can contact your local authority Environmental Health or Protection department to find out if you live in a smokeless area. If you are still unsure, or have any questions about these, contact us today and we can help.

Smokeless fuel is a special kind of fuel, often coal, that emits 80% less smoke and 25% less carbon than ordinary coal. This makes it perfect for garden fires or, in our case, closed home appliances, as they leave less soot and are easier to maintain.

DEFRA approced stoves and appliances are units such as ovens, boilers, and stoves, which have passed tests to show that they only emit a certain amount of smoke during standard use. These tests show that the appliance or stove is safe and compliant with regulations.
